my brown dog
he's gonna be 9 next month. that's not all that old for a pup.
but a lab- that's elderly.
I'm seeing changes in the ol'boy.
he's had a few fatty tumors for at least a year. his teeth are getting bad. it takes more effort to get up off the floor...
there is one place, on his right side, at the posterior end of his ribs, that has me very worried. conveniently located at his liver, this area is like half an orange has been shoved under his skin.
it came up over two months and has not gotten bigger that I have noted. I dismissed it as another fatty tumor. but its changed from soft and fatty to firm.
and now today, he keeps throwing up.
I'm gonna have to get him to the vet this week.
the things spinning through my head and exhausting me.
I'm not ready for anything to happen to my boy.

Java will be 9 in October. I, too, often wonder how much longer she has with us. Raising four babies is taking its toll on her.
For now, I just hug her all the time and love her and make her "retirement years" as pleasant as I can. I'm guessing you're doing the same with Big Brown.
All we can do is make them comfortable, love them as much as they love us, and always do what's best for them.
They are no different than children.
